The Royal Wii
Joy Online – Accra,Ghana
The Nintendo Wii has positioned itself as the gaming console for everybody. As it turns out, that includes the Queen of England. Well, sort of. …

What makes the Queen’s “Royal Wii” different? It’s gold-plated, sucka! None of that lame white plastic for Buckingham Palace — the Queen needs her bling!

17 Discount Wii Systems Sold A Second? Maybe…

By Admin

The news over at www.themanroom.com tells us that Nintendo Wii consoles have sold well. Wii all knew that already, of course, but it’s good to see it in print, isn’t it?

For the second year in a row, Nintendo Wii video game consoles have flown out of stores before they even reached a shelf. Online retailer Amazon.com sold an average of 17 Wiis per second in 2007. There is apparently no slowing down the cost-friendly giant, even as competitors scramble to develop their own answer to the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

How do you sell 17 Wii consoles per second? I mean, that’s whizzing through them a bit! You’d be hard pushed to sell two discount wii systems a second if it were me, let alone normal priced ones, and 17 per second at that. OK, I guess it wasn’t always the same sales assistant. And if it was, then he or she certainly didn’t get too many bathroom breaks…

Now that Nintendo is predicting 14 million Wii consoles sold through March 2008, the bigger question becomes “what games do I plan on it?” Besides the obvious hot hits, there are approximately 65 new games in the pipeline for the first half of this year, and Nintendo has been kind enough to let everyone know what they are.

Well, March is but a matter of weeks away. So, who is going to buy the 14 million consoles? I’d have thought everyone who wants a Wii already has one. But apparently not. And 65 new games – more than one a week. Now, that’s the kind of game support I like to see!

The list reveals some previously postponed games have been given a new time line for release. Wii Fit, originally slated for this month, has now been lumped into Q2 2008. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, is on tap for this summer. And Mario Kart is on tap for this spring.

Nintendo have had their problems, mainly in getting their finger out and waggling. But it seems that they are finally getting it together. It will soon be spring. Mario Kart? Yes! For me at least…

Nintendo Wii Outsells Sony’s PS3 Three To One!

By Admin

Nintendo Co. sold three times as many Wii game machines in Japan last year as Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 consoles, researcher Enterbrain Inc. said.

Only three times as many? We thought it would’ve been more than that. Sales figures are notoriously untrustworthy unless the source is reliable. Just the other day we were reading reports that Sony was top dog or at least close to being No. 1 and now we see that they have been overtaken by Nintendo, allegedly. What choppy seas Wii sail in!

Nintendo sold 3.63 million Wii units last year, compared with PlayStation 3’s 1.21 million, Tokyo-based Enterbrain said today in a faxed statement. Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 game machines sold 257,841 units, the researcher’s estimates showed.

This news story actually shouldn’t be surprising. With some of the revolutionary games coming out for the Wii, the console is appealing to a wide cross-section of the public which is creating the conditions for this fantastic little games box to break all records. Hey we loved the PS3 as much as anybody else but the Nintendo Wii represents a sea change and we hope will set the standards for games consoles in the future. Hell, even my grandma loves it!

In October, Sony cut prices in Japan by as much as 10 percent. In November, the Tokyo-based company introduced its cheapest model at 39,980 yen ($367) to compete with the Wii, which is priced at 25,000 yen. The PlayStation outsold the Wii for the first time in Japan in the period from Oct. 29 to Nov. 25, according to Enterbrain.

It’s easy to get complacent. Games developers need to ramp it up a notch and start developing more games for the Wii. The games we currently have like the Dance Dance Revolution Wii are excellent but we need more. If Nintendo is to continue with this amazing growth the game developers will need to keep up with demand and keep producing the highly addictive games which seem easy to develop on this console. The Wii has been so successful because it is not necessarily limited to traditional gamers but it appeals to many many more people who use it in a more casual fashion for general entertainment with party games and the Wii Sports. Rock on Nintendo!

Wii Want To Get Fit!

By Admin

Nintendo’s Wii Fit exercise package has sold one million units in Japan, in just over a month on sale. According to Nikkei, the hardware and software bundle reached the milestone on January 6, after being introduced to the market on December 1.

We’re wondering if the popularity of the Wii Fit package in Japan is a direct result of obesity levels reaching record proportions in the country. It seems nowhere in the world is safe from the Western style consumerism, waste and even gluttony which many countries are adopting. No doubt the Japanese people see the Wii as a fun way to fight the flab!

Wii Fit was first unveiled by Shigeru Miyamoto at E3 last year, and represents Nintendo’s continued push to expand the industry beyond the traditional videogame market. The package consists of the Wii Balance Board peripheral and software that simulates an exercise workout, using more than 40 types of training activities, as well as keeping track of a users BMI and other stats on a new Wii Channel.

We think top marks should be given to Nintendo for creating a video gaming platform which really takes things to a whole new level. Revolution is strong word to use but the Nintendo Wii really has brought about revolution in home entertainment. No console before it has managed to get the whole family involved to such an extent as the Nintendo Wii. No doubt we shall see similar levels of sales of this great looking Wii game once it is unleashed on the rest of the world. Wouldn’t it be great if we could stay fit by playing videogames! Let’s face it, we need all the help we can get. Obesity is a huge problem (excuse the pun) and it’s only getting worse at the moment.

Rumours Abound: Will No More Heroes Release Early?

By Admin

Ubisoft and Grasshopper Manufacture seemed to have noticed that the North American release of their latest offering No More Heroes is a bit too close to that of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and have made the decision to launch the title earlier than expected.

This is a keen move on Ubisofts part because we all know there’s a finite pot for most people when it comes to the video game spend. Why create uneccesary competition for a release when it can be avoided? This is a sound business decision and it means we’ll get to play the game a bit earlier than expected. Bonus! If an online store has reported this news then it’s more than likely true for the online release. That’s the usual. The release date on the high street may be unchanged.

Fans waiting for the localized version of Goichi Suda’s sandbox offering will now be able to take home No More Heroes on January 22, 2008. That’s roughly three weeks from now.

Oh, it’d be awesome if they do release early. We’re very excited and can’t wait much longer to give this game a workout. Unfortunately we’re spending most of our Wii time sitting here with Super Mario Galaxy with the desire to lop off a head or two foremost in our mind!

No More Heroes pits you in the role of young man Travis Touchdown who wins himself a beam katana and sets on the goal of becoming the world’s best assassin. Using the Wii Remote’s motion-sensing capabilities, you slash through rivals and roam the city in a plot that focuses on societal issues. This one’s a Nintendo Wii exclusive.

Suda51, the top dog at Grasshopper, has confirmed that No More Heroes for the Nintendo’s Wii “will focus heavily on direct input through the controller, and will exceed Killer7.”. Here at Discount Wii Systems the wait is almost unbearable… Just to pass the time one of us is replaying Killer 7 over and over and the Dance Dance Revolution Wii has also made a comeback!

Some are saying January 22nd, others are saying February 5. Maybe it’s all just a ploy to create some more buzz around the game. Let’s face it, no more buzz is needed. Everyone we know is drooling heavily, waiting for this one.
